WhereCampPDX 7 kicks off tonight!

As the week of FOSS4G comes to a close, WhereCampPDX is spinning up for the weekend! Here’s all you need to know need to make the most of your mappy weekend.

Friday September 12, 6–9pm: Opening Party, sponsored by Mapbox!

Our opening party this year doubles as the closing party for FOSS4G. Join us as we kick off the WhereCamp weekend at RefugePDX in SE Portland, with drinks, small bites, and great conversation. If you’re coming from FOSS4G, it’s just down the street from the Oregon Convention Center.

Saturday September 13: Unconference Sessions!

  • 9:15am: Doors open, coffee is served!
  • 10:00am: Unconference kickoff, announcements, and session scheduling
  • 11:00am: Unconference sessions start
  • 1:00pm: Lunch from Nicholas Restaurant!
  • 2:00pm: Unconference sessions continue
  • 4:00pm: Afternoon break
  • 4:30pm: Even more unconference sessions
  • 5:30pm: Closing session

Afterward, evening activities TBA (hacking and pizza are traditional).

Sunday September 14th: Fun and hacking TBD

We’re seeking suggestions for Sunday activities. In the past, people have organized:

  • Scavenger hunts
  • Bike rides
  • Code sprints
  • GeoBrunch™
  • Kite Photography
  • OSM Mapping Parties
  • Psychogeographical Tours of Portland

Want to run something? We’ll have a board for scheduling and a forum for announcements at Saturday’s unconference.

Volunteers Needed!

We need volunteers throughout the event to help with setup, cleanup, and greeting people at the door. There are shifts available both at Friday’s party and on Saturday. If you can contribute an hour or two, please add your name to the signup sheet.

What to Bring

  • Yourself!
  • A laptop, for hacking or sharing your favorite maps, if you like
  • Cameras, notebooks, and other ways to help record the event
